enlightenedWHAT IS THE PTA?

The PTA (Parent/Teacher Association) exists to provide closer links between home and school and it's an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.

Over the years the PTA has raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children's education experience and the school’s facilities. We have also developed good links with the local community and are always well supported by both residents and businesses, for which we are very grateful.  Many of our local shops are very generous providing donations for raffle prizes and some have taken part in our Christmas and Summer Fayres.  We are also extremely grateful to the local businesses who have participated in charity matched giving schemes.  This has made a huge difference to our fundraising efforts.

The PTA also hosts numerous events throughout the year including

  • Cinema nights
  • Summer Circus
  • Discos and fetes
  • Supper with Santa
  • Twmpath
  • Christmas shopping trips for parents

enlightenedHOW DO I JOIN THE PTA?

You don't need to join. All families are automatically members of the YGG Aberdâr PTA when their child joins the school and all parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available to give.

enlightenedPTA COMMITTEE AND MEETINGS

Our PTA committee consists of three Officers: Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.

We also have between 5 and 10 ordinary committee members to make up the full committee.

The PTA meet on a regular basis usually once or twice per term, with smaller working groups meeting as necessary when we are planning bigger events. These meetings are usually announced on the Facebook group and can vary in time and place to help accommodate parents who are working full time etc.

Our Annual General Meeting is held in September and provides an opportunity for parents to come along and hear in more detail about the work of the PTA, the events we've run, the funds we've raised and how the money has been spent.  It's also when we elect our new committee members.

All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings as we value your input

enlightenedHOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the PTA.

Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so valuable and it doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis.

For example

  • Decorating for fetes and Discos
  • Photography at our supper with santa events
  • Manning a stall at one of our events
  • Volunteering to help out with fruity fridays at the school
  • Becoming a class representative
  • Manning the yearly book fair stall

There are always jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare.

For example

  • wrapping gifts
  • preparing raffle tickets etc
  • Designing posters for upcoming events
  • Spreading the word of PTA events and information to other parents on class Facebook pages

We really couldn’t achieve what we do without the behind the scenes help that we receive. If you would like to be more involved you can volunteer at any time.

All help is gratefully received!

Iau Iachus

Every Thursday the PTA runs 'Iau Iachus' where the children have an opportunity to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and other healthy snacks.

We usually meet in the staff room about 8.45-9.00am (after dropping the kids off) and begin preparing the fruit and vegetables.

At about 10am we then run the fruit stall either in the library or in the summer (if the weather is nice) outside in the bandstand.

Afterwards we pack up and are usually finished between 11 to 11.30am.

If you can volunteer, please get in touch with us on the Facebook page (see on the page above) or email us.

Don’t worry if you can only spare half hour as the most help is needed to prepare the fruit. And if you can only help once in the year we will be happy to have you!

No need to worry about baby sitters as younger siblings are welcome to come and we always have time for a cuppa!

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SOON 😊
